IP4OS at the center of discussions on research potential

PUBMET2025 – The Conference on Scholarly Communication in the Context of Open Science – took place from 11 to 12 September 2025 at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb. The event brought together an international community of researchers, librarians, publishers, policymakers, and open science practitioners to examine current challenges in scholarly communication. IP4OS was represented at the event by our partners from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine (UZSM).

The conference was centered on the theme of quality in scholarly publishing and open science. Topics of discussion included open access, research assessment reform, transparency, data sharing, rights retention, and institutional and national open science policies.

The programme consisted of keynote lectures, roundtables, workshops, and poster presentations, providing perspectives on policy developments and best practices that promote openness, integrity, and excellence in research. Keynote speakers included Mikael Laakso (Tampere University), Livia Puljak (Catholic University of Croatia), Ana Lazarova (Sofia University), Jadranka Stojanovski (University of Zadar), and Merle Jacob (Lund University).

The conference was organised by the Croatian Association for Scholarly Communication (ZNAK), the Ruđer Bošković Institute, the University of Zadar, the University of Zagreb, and partners.

As part of the programme, Lea Škorić (University of Zagreb School of Medicine) served on the organisational board and moderated Session 4: Reforming Research Systems to Achieve Excellence and Diversity. The session featured a keynote address by Professor Merle Jacob, followed by a roundtable discussion on national and institutional approaches to reforming research assessment frameworks in line with openness, equity, and excellence.

As part of the event, Lea also presented a poster titled “Unlocking Research Potential: Enhancing Knowledge Transfer through Open Science and Intellectual Property Management” during Session 3: Implementation, Education, and Perceptions of Open Science.
