IP4OS was honoured to participate in the INORMS Congress 2025 in Madrid (6–8 May 2025), organised by EARMA. The event stood out not only for its impressive scale but also for its innovative and sustainable approach, aligning perfectly with the project's vision of advancing the synergy between Intellectual Property (IP) and Open Science (OS).
With over 2,200 research managers from across the globe, representation from more than 67 nationalities, and a total of 409 speakers across 16 parallel sessions, the congress offered a truly global platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration. It was inspiring to see such a vibrant and engaged community come together to shape the future of research management and innovation.
At the congress, Katharina Miller and Vanessa-Ariane Guzek Hernando, from IP4OS partner MILLER INTERNATIONAL KNOWLEDGE, proudly represented the project, alongside Teodora Konach, a valued member of our Advisory Board. MILLER INTERNATIONAL KNOWLEDGE (MIK) is committed to empowering researchers and institutions through a unique integration of legal expertise, ethical foresight, and innovation strategy. Representing both IP4OS and MIK, Katharina Miller contributed her long-standing experience in compliance, legal advisory, and corporate accountability. She highlighted the need for a new paradigm that places intellectual property at the service of open and responsible science, where innovation is both protected and shared, and where legal frameworks are enablers rather than obstacles.
In the session titled "Enhancing Policy Impact and Excellence in EU-Funded Research: The Role of Research Managers," Katharina had the privilege of contributing to a forward-looking conversation about how research managers are becoming key agents in ensuring excellence, security, and trust in publicly funded research. Moderated by Sarah Richardson, the panel featured, apart from representatives of IP4OS, experts from prominent projects including PATTERN, RE4GREEN, CATALISI, iRECS, and VERITY. Together, they explored the critical interplay between science and policy, and how strategic support and legal guidance are essential to sustainable impact.
This experience has reaffirmed the dedication of IP4OS to strengthening the integration of Intellectual Property and Open Science in research ecosystems across Europe and beyond.
