Meet the IP4OS Role Models

The Role Model Campaign is a growing collection of video content featuring researchers, legal experts, librarians, data professionals, and knowledge transfer specialists who are navigating the intersection of intellectual property and open science in their everyday work.

The campaign showcases diverse voices from across the European Research Area and beyond, with the aim of demonstrating that IP and OS are not in conflict but can, when managed thoughtfully, reinforce one another. Role models include specialists from institutions such as the University of Oxford, Stockholm University, McGill University, the Center for Open Science, Creative Commons, and Kiel University, among others.

Materials are structured into three formats. Deepening Modules bring together panels of experts exploring topics such as copyright and licensing for reuse, and research knowledge valorisation strategies. Webinars offer in-depth learning sessions on themes ranging from secondary publication rights and Creative Commons licences to open science as an IP strategy. Interviews capture personal reflections from individual role models on how they navigate IP decisions in their own research contexts.

All videos are freely available on the IP4OS YouTube channel and website, and new content continues to be added as the project progresses.
