Second IP4OS Profession Deepening Module video released
With a specific focus on Data Stewards, a new video titled “IP & OS — Creating effective research knowledge valorisation strategies” has been published as part of the IP4OS Profession Deepening Module series, which explores the role of data professionals in supporting researchers to make well-informed decisions. In this session, three experts examine their role and crucial contribution to translating open science objectives into everyday practice.
-
Chiara Basalti from University of Bologna leads the institution’s Research Services Unit and fosters collaboration across research data governance roles. She focuses on balancing openness and security by integrating legal, ethical, privacy and intellectual property considerations. A decision-support tool was created in her team to help researchers plan data use and sharing from the beginning.

Clara Boavida from ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon works to support teams from project planning to dataset publication. She connects intellectual property requirements with open science practices, particularly in projects involving sensitive information. Her role also includes advising on legal compliance, consent and data protection, while coordinating with legal, IT, ethics and library services to ensure secure storage and responsible sharing of research outputs.

Daniel Mietchen from FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure is a data architect working on infrastructures for open, large-scale collaboration. He focuses on frameworks that enable compatibility across different environments, using metadata standards, identifiers and ontologies to ensure information is reusable and machine-readable. He works closely with data engineers, managers and stewards.
