Unlocking synergies: IP-OS workshop at ENRIO Congress

At the ENRIO Congress, the workshop “Unlocking Synergies: The IP-OS Best Practice Manual and Capacity Building Programme in 27 Countries” brought together a small but highly engaged audience. Led by Prof. Dr. Julia Priess-Buchheit and Marie Alavi, the session explored how Open Science (OS) and Intellectual Property (IP) can be integrated to strengthen responsible research practices across Europe.

Although attendance numbers were modest, the workshop was marked by in-depth discussions and active exchange. Participants helped all to deep dive into the Slovenian legal framework supporting Open Science, which provided a concrete national example of how legal systems can foster transparency, reuse, and sustainable knowledge valorisation. We could help shed light on how IP is in interplay here, and that IP plays a vital role in supporting knowledge valorisation as well as commercialisation.

The session highlighted barriers researchers face, such as limited awareness of open licensing and varying national legal contexts, while also pointing to opportunities for stronger institutional guidance and training. With its focus on practical tools, capacity building, and multi-professional collaboration, the IP-OS programme continues to build momentum across its 27-country network.
